Where is IT?

In certain cases victims are Burned to Death, Beaten to Death, or tortured in such a way that the victim died a few days later due to severe injuries.

In the last decade, it is observed that there is a spontaneous surge in the cases of mob lynching in the country, most of them are found to be communal, specifically targeting a certain community of people, for allegedly slaughtering, eating or keeping cow and cow’s meat. Groups of Individuals describing themselves to be Gau Rakshaks or Cow Vigilantes, captures an individual, assembles a huge crowd, and then openly accuse the captured individual of crimes related to cow trafficking, they declare them guilty, and sentence them to torture, both mentally and physically, instead of handing them over to the Police, and that too when there are already laws enforced by state against cow trafficking and slaughter.

Some of the documented cases include:

1. 28 September 2015- Dadri, Uttarpradesh, Victim- MD. Akhlaq a blacksmith, accused of slaughtering a calf and keeping the flesh inside his home, was attacked at home and dragged out by the mob, beaten with rods and bricks.

2. 06 August 2016- Mewat, Haryana, a 20 year old woman and her 14 year old cousin were gangraped after being accused of eating cow's meat and two other relatives were murdered.

3. o1 April 2017- Alwar, Rajasthan, Pehlu Khan and his sons were returning from a cattle fair in Jaipur, when they were attacked by the Gau Rakshaks in Behror, the mob accused them cow smugglers and assaulted them, the video of assault gone viral and two days later Pehlu Khan died of the injuries.

4. 16 February 2023- Junaid (35), Nasir(25), were kidnapped from Bharatpur District, Rajasthan, and found dead inside their burnt SUV in Hariyana's Bhivani district.

These are a few out of more than a hundred registered cases of mob lynching in last decade in India.

Hence the Question: Where is IT? What is IT? Is it The Cow, the Meat, the Law, the Institution of Orders, the Sanity, the Harmony, the Humanity and many other things.
